Tributes Pour In for Late Graphic Designer and Musician Spyral

Tributes continue to pour in following the death of award-winning graphic designer and musician Spyral, whose real name was Kennedy Mwenya.

Close friend and fellow musician Tsar Leo revealed that Spyral passed away at Mzuzu Central Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. According to Leo, Spyral had been involved in an accident while returning from a relative’s funeral in Rumphi District.

“He was recovering, only to lose him this afternoon. He was talented, and his death is a huge blow to the creative industry,” Leo said, adding that more details would be communicated later.

Several artists have mourned Spyral, describing his death as a significant loss. Phyzix remembered him as a vibrant and passionate individual. “I have known him since 2007. He was passionate about art, a very talented graphic designer and musician,” he said.

Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) President Vita Chirwa also expressed sorrow over Spyral’s passing, highlighting the music community’s collective grief.

Spyral rose to prominence in 2016 as a member of the Proud duo. In 2021, he released his hip-hop project titled “High Hopes.”
