Lingadzi Police in Lilongwe have arrested Tamia Ja, also popularly known as Hannah Jabes, on suspicion of theft.
Cassim Manda, the spokesperson for Lingadzi Police Station, confirmed the arrest on Thursday afternoon.
“We have detained Hannah Jabes, alias Tamia Ja, on allegations of theft,” Manda stated.
He explained that the arrest came after a complaint from a local businessperson who claimed that Tamia Ja had fraudulently acquired K8,000,000 after the individual mistakenly transferred the funds to her account instead of intended recipient.
Initially, Jabes acknowledged receiving the money and assured the complainant that she would handle the transaction upon her return from South Africa. However, she later displayed evasive behavior, refusing to return the money until her apprehension by the authorities.
