Karonga United FC Guns Down Mighty Wanderers to Reach Airtel Top 8 Semifinal
After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Mighty Wanderers in Blantyre at Kamuzu Stadium, Karonga United FC sang a new song at home on Sunday, 27th April 2025, at Karonga Stadium.
Karonga United leveled the aggregate score at 1-1 in the 54th minute through a brilliant strike by Alfred Chizinga, assisted by Allen Chihana, breathing new life into the home side.
After the equalizer, Karonga United dominated the match, launching relentless wave after wave of attacks.
Chizinga later sealed his brace, scoring the second goal for Karonga United and leaving Wanderers’ dreams hanging in limbo, with the aggregate standing at 2-1.

After the match, Karonga United FC assistant coach Chris Chinkwita expressed satisfaction with the outcome. He explained that their focus was not necessarily to score many goals but to correct the mistakes made during the first leg in Blantyre.
Chinkwita praised his players for their outstanding performance, discipline, and for strictly following the game plan, which earned them a spot in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira accepted the defeat, saying his boys played a good game, but luck was simply not on their side.
Karonga United FC is currently the only team to have scored two goals in the Airtel Top 8 so far, with Alfred Chizinga being the only player to register a brace in the tournament.

Karonga United FC will now face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC in the Airtel Top 8 semifinals
