Malawi’s first tollgate is set to become operational this August upon completion of construction works as well as official gazetting of tariffs.
Currently, the government; through the Roads Fund Administration, is finalising construction of tollgates on the M1 road at Chingeni in Balaka and Kalinyeke in Dedza.
Roads Fund Administration officials have since confirmed the August date with regard to commencement of business at the Chingeni Toll Plaza.
There are expectations that the two facilities will be raking in no less than four billion kwacha for the government annually.
RFA Spokesperson Masauko Ngwaluko said so far works at the site are advancing well and by end July works should be complete, ready for opening in August.
