Kawale Police courts kabaza operators’ leadership

In an effort to combat rising attacks of kabaza operators, Kawale Police Station has, on October 20, 2021, engaged zonal chairpersons from Area 24 kabaza ranks.

The meeting comes following the brutal murder of one of the kabaza operator.

Speaking during the meeting, the Station Officer Senior Superintendent Goodwin Sambo asked the chairpersons present to advise their colleagues to guard their lives jealously.

“Security begins with you. Refrain from operating during odd hours which puts your lives and property at risk,” said Sambo.

He further advised the leadership to promote love amongst themselves, arguing that some of the attacks generate from within themselves.

The Station Officer further advised the operators to distance themselves from conniving with criminals and conveying suspicious customers during the night.

Sambo however, bemoaned the tendency of some kabaza operators who do not comply to road traffic regulations, like registration, insurance and possessing driver’s licence.

The leaders were further advised to refrain from acts of mob justice which jeopardise investigations.

They were also asked to be time conscious and avoid spreading false news.

On behalf of the kabaza leadership, Brino Jonas, who survived an attack, had the opportunity to share his testimony.

Through his experience, Jonas informed the gathering that the criminals are now using women to hook the operators.

The leadership has since asked fellow kabaza operators to value life more than money, hence the need to accompany each other when ferrying a customer during odd hours.
