The ‘Tonse Alliance’ a combination of 9 political parties and one pressure group has teamed up to support People’s Party (PP) candidate Ralph Mhone ahead of the fresh parliamentary election on 29 June.
Tonse alliance will officially launch its campaign this coming Sunday at Maganga ground in Nkhata-bay central constituency.
Among the main speakers at the launch are PP’s president Dr Joyce Banda, CFT’s Timothy Mtambo, MCP’s Gotani Hara, UTM’s Patricia Kaliati, Aford’s Enoch Chihana and the candidate himself Ralph Mhone among others.
Malawi Electoral Commission will hold the fresh parliamentary election in Nkhata-bay Central after the Supreme Court of Appeal nullified the candidature of DPP’s Symon Vuwa Kaunda over the irregularities that marred the 2019 election results for the constituency.
Soon after the 2019 election Ralph petitioned the High Court to nullify the results but his wish met a concrete wall and the court ruled in favour of Kaunda.
But the outcome did not please Ralph as he appealed the case to the highest court of the land. A total of Seven Judges scrutinized the case and he came out victorious.
Symon Vuwa Kaunda said even if they team up he will still make it as it was the case before.
As it stands now, only two candidates will battle it out to represent the people of Nkhata-bay Central in the August house and these are Ralph Mhone of PP and Symon Vuwa Kaunda of DPP.
