Blantyre Chief Resident court has officially charged five senior officials from Mapeto David Whitehead and Sons including two officers from MRA for tax evasion.
The accused, who have pleaded not guilty to the charges, appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kayira virtually.
Meanwhile, Senior Resident Magistrate Akya Mwanyongo made his rulling where, Frank Mbeta, one of the lawyers for the 5 accused Mapeto David Whitehead and Sons top officials, owners of the textile company, has said his clients have all pleaded not guilty on 15 counts bordering on tax evasion and money laundering.
Blantyre Registry Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kayira virtually took their plea Tuesday morning.
Two Malawi Revenue Authority customs officers George Mwaluka and Tsepiso Kaunda who have been implicated in the matter have also pleaded not guilty.
MRA arrested Mapeto DWS Director Faizal Gaffar Latif, Managing Director Muhammed Gaffar, a Financial Controller Abdul Rashid Bakali, Procurement Manager Yaseen Muhammad and general Manager Martin Mpata for defrauding government K10.8 billion.
