Member of Parliament for Ntcheu-Bwanje-South Constituency, Mwisho Chilikumtima, has appealed to Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to consider constructing modern school blocks at Mpotola, Kambuku 1, Full Primary Schools and Kateza Junior Primary School, as pupils are learning under trees and some are using shacks and dilapidated buildings as classrooms in the area.
Chilikumtima said the condition for the three schools is not conducive for learning saying during the rainy season learners are sent back.
He said the current situation puts lives of learners in danger as dilapidated buildings can collapse and injure children.
Community leaders have told MBC that school infrastructure challenges in the area are hurting both boys and girls as they are failing to proceed with their studies. Since 1995, the two junior schools cater for standard 1-3.
Thus the learners, being young, cannot afford to walk a distance of over five kilometres to the nearest school.
The Parliamentarian said the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is overwhelmed since it also meets developmental needs of the area such as; construction of bridges, maintenance of roads, hospitals and boreholes hence the appeal to the Government.
