Former MDF General Odillo fraud allegation charges

High Court judge Redson Kapindu has given 30 days to the State and defence to file written submissions on whether former Malawi Defence Force (MDF) commander Henry Odillo and three others have a case to answer or not over fraud allegations.

Odillo, former MDF deputy commander Clement Kafuwa, former accountant general David Kandoje and Ganizani Kuchombo are being accused of fraudulently paying about K2 billion to a South African arms supplier Thuso Group for a service not rendered to the MDF.

Tuesday morning, the state finished parading its 27th witness which the defence declined to cross examine, arguing the witness testimony shall be delth with in the submissions which both sides agreed to be done within the next 30 days.

Presiding Judge Redson Kapindu has therefore directed that written submissions should be filde before the court on May 7 this year.

He further directed that oral submissions be made on May 18, 2021.

State prosecutor Kamudoni Nyasulu has expressed excitement with the pace at which the case is moving considering that the case has taken three years now.
