Kawale Police Station through Community Policing branch on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 had a meeting with chiefs wives in a bid to drill them on how they can help in fighting sexual offences which are on the rise.
In a pilot phase , Kawale Police has been chosen to champion the initiative together with some few selected stations.

In view of this, Kawale Community Policing branch courted wives of chiefs as ambassadors within its policing area in” chiefs wives initiative “that has been funded by UNICEF.
Chiefs wives have been equipped with knowledge on gender based violence ,rape , defilement and sexual harrasement that at times go noticed because some people choose to conceal and not report such cases to police.

The chiefs wives will have to help in uncovering cases that may deliberately be concealed to ensure victims are helped and culprits brought to book.
The chiefs wives have been urged not to be on the forefront hiding such cases hence targeted to be used as weapons of change.
Speaking during the meeting, Kawale Community Policing Coordinator Inspector Thoko Mkwezalamba advised wives of traditional leaders to join hands with police to curb this challenge.
According to Mkwezalamna, issues of rape, defilement and sexual related offences need a holistic approach and for all of us to win the battle there is a need to cooperate chiefs wives in the initiative.
During the meeting, Queen mothers expressed happiness for being included in the initiative and promised to break this silence by reporting to police such cases to police.
