Police in Kawale on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, used sporting activities at Chiuzira Primary School ground to strengthen relations with communities while delivering security messages.
The station’s Sports Coordinator, Sub Inspector Patrick Phambana, organised football, netball, bawo and tug-of-war competitions between police officer teams and civilian teams, attracting hundreds of spectators.
Speaking during the event, Kawale Officer-In-Charge, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Marco Mvukuta, said close cooperation between police and communities is essential in the fight against crime.
OC Mvukuta (ACP) commended local leaders for their support towards Area 23 Police Unit and its Officer-In-Charge, Superintendent Shupi Gumbi.
Superintendent Gumbi thanked participating teams and local leaders for supporting the event, which also provided an opportunity for police to share security messages. She condemned mob justice and vandalism.
Inspector Mayeso Chikadza also cautioned communities against attacking elderly people over witchcraft allegations and discouraged child marriages.
Senior Chief Tsabango commended Kawale Police for organising the event and urged them to continue with similar community engagement activities.
In the sporting contests, Chiuzira 3 Stars beat Kawale Eagles 1-0 in football, while Lio Triple sisters defeated Kawale 19-4 in netball and 6-1 in bawo. Kawale won the tug-of-war 2-0 against Mwanje Bouncers.
The participating football and netball teams benefitted balls from Austin Kasito, who is the chair for development projects at Kawale.
