Police in Mangochi on November 25, 2025 arrested 35-year-old, Mussah Saidi, for possessing 750 litres of liquid petroleum(petrol) without a permit at Ntagaluka village within Mangochi Township.
On the afternoon of the said date, a team of general duties officers conducting patrols within the township received a tip-off from a well-wisher that the suspect, who is an illegal fuel trader, was keeping drums of petrol at his house.
Acting on the information, the officers proceeded to the suspect’s house where they found three drums containing a total of 750 litres of petrol loaded in a 2-ton Toyota Dyna within his compound about to be transported to Makanjira.
Upon noticing police presence, the suspect fled the scene, prompting officers to impound the motor vehicle and escort it to the station. Saidi later surrendered himself to police.
He will appear before court soon to answer charges related to the illegal possession of petroleum products.
Police in the district continue to warn the public against the illegal transportation and storage of fuel, emphasizing the serious safety hazards and legal consequences associated with such practices.
Saidi hails from Mauli village, Traditional Authority Makanjira in Mangochi.
