The newly established People First Foundation (PFF), in collaboration with Grand Palace Hotel, has announced the launch of the Tour De Mzuzu Bicycle Cycling Race, a major sporting event scheduled for 26 July 2025.

Addressing journalists during a media briefing held on Monday morning, 23 June, at Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu, PFF Executive Director Lumbani Kaunda said the event is being organized to raise funds for the construction of Umoza Village at Sonda, a future home for orphans in the northern region.

Kaunda explained that the race will feature various competitive categories, including international, professional, and local cyclists, with participation open to both men and women. The main race will span 80 kilometers, starting from Nkhata-Bay and finishing at Mzuzu Stadium.

In addition to the main event, there will be a 15-kilometer women’s category, starting from Chintheche Turn-off, and a 4-kilometer fun race for Kabaza (motorcycle taxi) riders, beginning at Joel (Msongwe) Roadblock and concluding at Mzuzu Stadium.

Winners in each category will receive attractive cash prizes, with the overall champion taking home $1,000, the runner-up earning $600, and the third-place finisher receiving $300.

Grand Palace Hotel General Manager, Sam Phiri, said the hotel was proud to partner with PFF, affirming its commitment to supporting community-driven initiatives that promote social and economic development.
