MDI Urges Action on Unemployment

Mulanje Development Institute (MDI) has appealed to the government and non-governmental organizations to implement strategies that address unemployment by hiring graduates who have completed their studies at the institution.

One of the senior officials at the school, Watson Jay Nachipo, made the remarks on Friday this week in Mulanje during a graduation ceremony where students received diplomas after successfully completing their programs.

Nachipo also advised the graduates not to solely rely on being employed but to utilize the skills and knowledge they have acquired to create their own jobs and even employ others, saying this would contribute to the country’s economic development.

He expressed satisfaction that some of the school’s past graduates have managed to start their own businesses and are employing others, a sign that the institution is producing positive results.

Loyce Chavuta, the best-performing student in Public Health, said she plans to apply the knowledge and skills gained at the institute to bring change wherever she works.

At the ceremony, a total of 54 students graduated with diplomas in various programs offered by the institute, including Public Health and Community Development, among others.
