Chitipa United FC has expressed optimism that Base Ground is nearly ready to host their remaining TNM Super League games. According to the club, the ground is 99% complete and capable of accommodating the rest of their home fixtures. This confidence follows an inspection carried out earlier this week.

Officials from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) visited Base Ground in Chitipa to determine whether it meets the standards to host Chitipa United’s remaining matches. Their assessment will play a key role in the decision to approve the ground for use in the league.

MacAdams Mhone, the Building Supervisor at Chitipa District Council, stated that while the council is still completing final touches, efforts are being made to ensure the ground is fully certified. He highlighted the dedication of the council to ensuring the facility is fit for top-tier football.

Watson Kabaghe, General Secretary of Chitipa United FC, was enthusiastic about the ground’s condition, describing it as “99% ready” for hosting elite matches. He remains hopeful that FAM and Sulom will give their final approval soon, which would allow the club to play their remaining games at home.

Kabaghe believes that certifying Base Ground will bring substantial benefits to the local community. The approval would provide an economic boost, especially for local vendors who could sell merchandise during match days, contributing to the area’s economic growth.

Chitipa United hopes to play their final six matches of the season at Base Ground, which would give them a home-field advantage as they fight to improve their league standing. Playing in front of their home fans could prove vital for their campaign.

Currently, Chitipa United FC sits in 15th position on the Super League log table, with 18 points from 22 matches. The team is in need of wins in their remaining fixtures to move up the table and avoid relegation.
