In preparation for the Salima Sugar Netball League National Finals on October 28, 2023, in Lilongwe, a story of resilience and financial hardship has emerged. Karonga Queens Netball team, representing the Northern Region, is facing significant financial challenges as they aim for national glory.
With a K40 million sponsorship backing the prestigious event, the anticipation in the netball community is high. However, for Karonga Queens, the path to the finals has been fraught with financial hurdles.
Coach Catherine Virginia Shama, in an exclusive interview with Avant Sports Desk, revealed that the team has only secured K200,000 for their trip to Lilongwe. This amount is far from sufficient to cover transportation, accommodation, and food for the team’s budget pegged at K1, 200,000.
Coach Catherine Shama has issued a heartfelt appeal to well-wishers, sponsors, and the netball community to support Karonga Queens. Their goal is clear: to ensure that this talented team can participate in the national finals with pride and determination.
Karonga Queens, alongside Ekwendeni Resource Netball team, will represent the hopes and dreams of the Northern Region in the Salima Sugar Netball League National Finals. Their journey reflects the resilience of athletes who overcome obstacles with unwavering dedication.
