A Malawi University of Science and Technology student (MUST) has died after falling from a top floor at the tertiary institution’s campus in Thyolo.
Thyolo Police Station Deputy Spokesperson, Rabecca Kashoti, told MBC that Michael Caswell Mapanje fell from the second floor at the institution at around 05:20 am on Saturday.
“There was a party within the campus on the second floor and the victim who was drunk accidentally fell from the floor as he was trying to step down to the first floor,” she said.
The police say Mapanje was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre for treatment and died on Sunday morning.
The police and MUST Communications Manager, James Mphande, said they are waiting for a postmortem on Mapanje that is being conducted at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences.
Mapanje, 32, was a Social Science in Disasters Management second year student.
