Maria Chiminba Phiri, 34 has stabbed her husband to death over his alleged secret affair with a 21-year old girl at Chigwirizano Township in Lilongwe.
It is reported that the suspect and the husband, Thom Mtuwa, 42 have a 7-month old baby girl together despite being on separation for weeks.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu says the suspect left Area 43 where she stays and followed the husband at Chigwirizano.
“She found the two chatting in the house. She didn’t do anything but instead left for the market to purchase two knives. After returning, she stabbed the girl on the abdomen before stabbing her man several times on the abdomen and ribs and drove off,” explains Chigalu.
But police intercepted her on the way. In a critical condition, the victims were rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital where Mtuwa died while receiving treatment. The other victim is still admitted to the hospital.
Postmortem results showed the death was due to internal bleeding secondary to stab wounds.
Chigalu says the suspect will appear in court after their investigations to answer murder and unlawful wounding charges.
Phiri who comes from Chiwere Village Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu while the deceased hailed from Mwanamanga Village, Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe.
