Domingo Chilenje a 49year old has been rescued by Police and community members after climbing a transmission power line tower in attempt to commit suicide at Makanjira in Blantyre.
Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi moved in quickly disconnecting a 132kv power grid that could have electrocuted the man.
James Mbale, from chileka police confirmed that the man has since been taken to Chikuli health center for mental examination.
Suicide attempt is a crime in Malawi under section 229 of the penal code and it attracts a jail term.
The development to have the man climb down from the tower was successful after hours of negotiations.
