5 die, 5 seriously injured in Ntcheu road accident

Five unidentified people (one male, three females and young boy) have died while 5 others have been seriously injured after a minbus they were travelling in got involved in a road accident.

The accident occurred on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Biriwiri area, along the M1 road at around 15:45hrs.

The accident which involved a motor vehicle, Isuzu 1400 Van registration number CA 9896, was being driven by Edwin Njoloma with one passenger on board, from the direction of Dedza heading Ntcheu.

Upon arrival at Biriwiri, the driver, due to over speeding, failed to keep his lane.

In the process, he collided with a Toyota Hiace minbus, registration number KK 8426, which was being driven by Patrick Nkhoma who carried 15 passengers on board heading the opposite direction.

Following the impact, 5 unidentified people sustained serious injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District hospital.

Five others sustained serious injuries and are received treatment at the same hospital, while 5 others have been treated as out patients.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the 5 deceased are being kept at Ntcheu District Hospital Mortuary.

Police have since appealed to the public to contact the nearest police or visit Ntcheu District Hospital mortuary if any of their relatives is reported missing.
